Great GPS! Aug 31, 2010 I purchased this for my husband for his birthday. He loves it. He travels all over Texas and 98% of the time it takes him exactly where he needs to go. So now I've decided to purchase the same one for my 18 year old daughter and myself.
A Bad Experience Aug 30, 2010 First the item arrived after I left for my trip for which I made the purchase. Thumbs down to Amazon. On returning from my vacation, I thought of keeping it since my old one needed a replacement. Turned it on and found that the traffic alerts needs a seperate purchase of $40/- more. After charging it the screen started flickering continously. Had enough with this POS. Returned it to Amazon. I guess Magellan is no longer what it used to be.
There are better options Aug 30, 2010 I would not buy this product again. It takes longer to "load" than any GPS I have owned. Sometimes we have had to wait more than five minutes.
Very Poor/Dysfunctional Map Updating Software and Process Aug 28, 2010 While recognizing good, with some exception, efforts of the company technical support to help me, I am very unhappy with their software functionality associated with free map update provided by the 30 days guaranty. I have already spent total 2 hours on phone with their tech support who were trying to help me to utilize that feature, using my two different computers, but no success.
The Magellan Content Manager - software supplied by the company - in most attempts doesn't find update that should exists on the company website, and if it does find it, the cost remains "BUY", despite specific instructions by company e-mail that the cost should be "FREE", as per its 30 days guaranty policy.
The next step, I was told, the issue to be escalated to the company headquarters...
I am very much disappointed with my purchase - a huge waste of time. Somehow, we become prisoners of electronic devices around us, which an issue itself...

Magellan Customer Service Sucks Aug 25, 2010 Magellan has notoriously poor customer service. If you update your device, beware of running antivirus software at the same time, it will brick your unit and you'll be calling their customer service department asking for a replacement.
Honestly, if you have an iPhone, the built-in directions service with the iPhone is just as good as a Magellan GPS.
